How EmailArt pulls your brand colours out of a logo

By EmailArt team

Upload a logo, get a palette. It looks like magic; it's mostly just clustering and a bit of taste baked into the defaults.

The pipeline

  • Decode the uploaded image in the browser (no server round-trip)
  • Sample pixels, weighted away from near-white and near-black backgrounds
  • Cluster the samples into a small palette using k-means
  • Rank clusters by saturation and coverage, keeping the top few
  • Assign the most vivid to "primary", the next to "accent", the rest as neutrals

Why we don't ask you to type hex codes

Because the person setting up a signature usually doesn't know the brand palette off the top of their head. The logo is the one brand asset everyone has to hand — start there.
